Jonathan Yao (Physiotherapist)

Biography

Jonathan is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist who graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Doctor of Physiotherapy, following earlier clinical experience as a kinesiologist in Canada. He has a strong background in exercise-based rehabilitation and is also a certified personal trainer, clinical Pilates instructor and strength and conditioning coach.

His clinical approach combines precise, evidence-based manual therapy with targeted exercise prescription to address both pain and its underlying biomechanical contributors. Jonathan has undertaken extensive training in the Stecco Fascial

Manipulation® system, supporting a comprehensive and whole-body approach to assessment and treatment.

Jonathan has a particular interest in neck and back pain, including cervicogenic headache and TMJ dysfunction. He works with a broad range of clients, from those managing everyday musculoskeletal issues to individuals returning to higher physical demands, using progressive rehabilitation to restore function and reduce recurrence.

With a sporting background in basketball, Jonathan has supported athletes across multiple sports including football, field hockey and rugby, drawing on his expertise in strength and conditioning and exercise science to guide safe return to sport.

Outside the clinic, Jonathan enjoys golf, snowboarding and exploring Melbourne’s food scene. He speaks fluent Mandarin.
